June 30, 2006rainy days..............Woke up to a very sunny and bright morning so I hurriedly did my laundry before I went to work. And then....this!! Now I have to do it all again tomorrow. Hahh, I should have watched the weather forecast this morning. Anyway, this is my hubby's car, my in-laws house and the lens of my camera. Hubby was off today so I didnt have to wait a long time for my bus. ・midnitebara 10:06 PM 14 Comments:June 29, 2006teeny-weeny carouselI said before that there was no carousel in Akita, I was wrong. Met with a friend today at a dept. store and I saw this on the 3rd floor. Sad to say.., but only kids can ride. Not even the children at heart ( like me??...nah !) can. Visit tanty in Stavanger, Norway. She is a new member of our little dp blog society. ・midnitebara 7:09 PM 11 Comments:June 28, 2006choo....choo...That was then, now it is clang clang clang (?) and not a very pleasant sound. Akita loves the color green. Our mascot ( sugichi ) is green, our buses are green and so is this train. I've been residing here almost 4 years and yet I only took the train once. There are not so many train stations and I happen to live between Akita station ( central ) and Tsuchizaki station. Hahh, hope there was a train station near me, buses are slow and more expensive too. By the way train is " kishya 汽車 ". ・midnitebara 5:27 PM 20 Comments:June 27, 2006toilet art...I like this drawing, how about you!? Saw this hanging on the toilet door of a dvd shop. It say's " keep the toilet clean and no smoking ". Glad that there is an aspiring artist working in this shop. Or else it would be the usual boring reminders. If Im not mistaken, the artist's name is " chihiro ". Good work, chihiro! I hope you visit Nicola in Rheingau, Germany! ・midnitebara 5:34 PM 9 Comments:June 26, 2006his and hers...geta 下駄Summer is fast approaching. Actually today felt like summer, inside my apartment was 30 deg. C. Went to return some dvd's and went inside the clothes store which was just next door. Not really wanting to buy anything but trying to look for pics. ( Is it illegal??) I hope not! Shot this with my mobile phone so no one would notice! Anyway, this is geta. Japanese wooden clogs which I find really cute. Comfortable during the hot summer days but there is just one thing.......... they make a lot of noise!! ・midnitebara 8:12 PM 13 Comments:June 25, 2006heart of the cityOpps, another station shot. Sorry, no other extra photo. Anyway, shot this from popo road. Theres my bus...hey wait!! Nah, even if I run I wouldnt have made it . This is the door to the city. Buses from other prefectures arrives here. The train and shinkansen ( bullet trains ) are just behind me, too. This area is quite old, except for the station itself. But I like this part of the city. There is a " starbucks cafe " inside the building on the right. There are many clothes shop and there is even an english school ( NOVA ) on that green building to the left. Pls. drop by Nuno's at Porto, Portugal! ・midnitebara 7:08 PM 12 Comments:June 24, 2006your smile eased my pain.......after the long wait for my bus! This is popo road inside Akita City station. The bus ( yesterday's post ) stopped at the east exit so I had to cross this road to get to the other bus that finally took me home. This lady seem so happy and cheerful I just have to post her picture. Hope she doesnt mind! A smile like her's can really make someone happy.., I hope that man on the left was affected that way. ・midnitebara 6:28 PM 12 Comments:June 23, 2006the wait...I was sure my small bicycle and short legs would'nt make it to school today. It was quite a long distance from home, almost at the edge of the city so I took the bus. To my disbelief, only one bus comes along every hour...gosh! After work, had to wait almost 40 minutes for the bus that will take me back to civilization. High noon, goodness!! I was almost cooked! Glad at first coz I thought I could take pictures. But there was nothing...nada..nai..none to shoot. So I give you my post for the day.....nothingness!! Please visit Andy in Providence, Rhode Island U.S.A ! ・midnitebara 3:43 PM 9 Comments:June 22, 2006green oceanAnd the cars are the fishes ?? Hello, are you trying to be poetic? (* ~ * ) Another photo from my break time ventures. On the left side is Meitoku Elem. School while to the right is Senshu Park, with the beautiful tower. Its a slope going to the school and let me say it was not an easy ride. I was still out of breath during my first class. Green, its really refreshing to our over-used, tired eyes! Wondered if the effect is the same if leaves are red ?! Visit Kris, a photographer to reckon to in Szentes, Hungary ! ・midnitebara 6:31 PM 13 Comments:June 21, 2006ze lavatoryOk, ok you might say " what in the world is midni thinking, posting this pic?" For those eating their lunch, dinner or snack Im so sorry! I wanted to show you this new toilet invention coz Im not sure if its already available in other countries. This toilet makes people lazier than they are now. Why ? The lid automatically opens when it senses a butt hovering and after you ...uh..uhmm..deposited it flushes itself, too. Then the lid closes after you go. Nice huh! Problem is you must not get used to this coz they are not yet installed in every place. Got to check before leaving , you might .... Meet MoonSoleil ! ・midnitebara 6:05 PM 13 Comments:June 19, 2006my mini gardenIm not giving up gardening, although many beautiful flowers have died on my hands the last couple of years. As you already know, I currently live in a small apartment without a lawn. That doesnt stop me from making my own garden though. This is the hallway when you reach the 2nd floor. To the left is a window where beyond it I hang my laundry and to the right is my humble abode. Its a boring cold hallway but now that I've put flowers on pots, it looks a little bit lively ! Pls. visit Julia who currently lives in Kitakami, Japan. ・midnitebara 7:41 PM 20 Comments:June 18, 2006weed??As I journey with my partner ( my bicycle ) ,I see many beautiful flowers that grow wildly on the side of the road. They are so lovely to be catergorized as weeds and yet I know that no one planted them, they just grow. Nature never stops to amaze me ! Pls. check out Orange County, California U.S.A. ・midnitebara 6:57 PM 14 Comments:June 17, 2006yellow flowerDuring my short breaks between classes I look for pictures that I can share with you. " Yakitori " or barbecue is a popular " tsumami " or food to eat while drinking liquor but its also great with cooked rice. They smell so gooood, hope it reaches you. Here is a closer look . ・midnitebara 5:49 PM 10 Comments:June 15, 2006yukata 浴衣After enduring the wet and humid rainy season comes the much awaited summer. And when we say summer, it also means " matsuri " or festivals, and during those festivals girls and ladies come out dressed in this beautiful " yukata's " or summer kimono. Its easier to wear compared to the kimono and it comes in various colors and designs. I own three and I intend to watch a matsuri wearing one this year. Here's a photo of yukatas for the whole family. How about visiting Lyon, France through Gre-kun's blog. ・midnitebara 10:21 PM 13 Comments:June 14, 2006father and childTake your pick fella's. I'll go for the smaller one. I am on the lookout for the more interesting and "out of this world" motorcycles that I see speeding on the streets lately. Here is another 2 more. Visit Ken in Lafayette, Louisiana U.S.A. ・midnitebara 6:00 PM 10 Comments:June 13, 2006get out...of my way..! I think that was what we were both thinking. No more eggs and mik on my fridge. Pls. visit a photo a day and sisifo at Lisbon, Portugal. ・midnitebara 8:14 PM 8 Comments:June 12, 2006quiet dinnerWe dont only take off our shoes at school. We take them off when we enter our homes too, small hospitals and even at my hubby's office. Like this typical restaurant, its actually a ramen (mein) shop. There are tables and chairs but most restaurants here have this space for those who want to take off their shoes and relax. Personally, I prefer to sit on the table. Try to sit japanese style...fold your legs under you or sit on your heels for just 15 minutes and you will know why !! Its called " seiza ". 正座 After trying seiza, pls. visit Annie at Little Rock, Arkansas U.S.A ! ・midnitebara 5:09 PM 16 Comments:June 11, 2006elem. school lifeThis is the same school from yesterdays post. The girls names are " Hina " and "Manami ", its written on their caps. The trophies are what the school earned from various spelling bees, science fairs, and so on for the last 130 years. Yes, thats how old the school is. My pupils came looking for me at faculty room, heheh! I was busy lurking the halls taking pictures I almost forgot the time! Visit Luggi in Los Angeles, Cal. U.S.A . ・midnitebara 11:17 AM 9 Comments:June 10, 2006neatOne thing I like about the schools here is this. Pupils and teachers alike leave their shoes at the entrance hall ( genkan ) Of course they have another pair that they wear inside the school .I have my own and there are slippers for visitors, too. No need for vigorous mopping of the floor, right. I wonder about the elementary schools in your country. Can you tell me? Pls. visit Brian & Lucy in New York right now !! ・midnitebara 11:49 AM 14 Comments:June 09, 2006dream houseAnother window treatment for you guys! Had a hard time standing on my toes while taking the pic because there was a wall, just a little shorter than me. Find it so pretty I just have to take a shot. Here is how the whole window looked like. Why don't you visit Cris at Newcastle Upon Tyne, England! ? You wont regret it! ・midnitebara 6:21 PM 7 Comments:June 08, 2006~ trees ~Japanese people are world-class when it comes to gardening and as you see here..trimming trees. Travel to exotic Mumbai, India now ! ・midnitebara 4:19 PM 14 Comments:June 07, 2006~ hatake ~I was born and raised in the city but I've always known that I will be more happier and content in the country. Coming upon this old man tending to his " horenso hatake " or spinach field/garden after a days work is such a sight to behold. Although there are new high rise condo's being erected in all parts of the city..,trying to keep up with urban life.., the locals are really farmers by heart. Living in this place where its cold for almost half of the year, I came to realise the importance of hard work. This patch of land was all covered with snow but look at those delicious looking spinach now!! Can I have some??? Visit Sam , a writer/novelist in Montchauvet , France ! ・midnitebara 4:45 PM 9 Comments:June 06, 2006" lonely babahera "Its been hot this last few days that " babahera's" are out. Babahera's are old women selling icecream on the side walks and some places where lots of people gather. This lonely looking babahera choosed to position herself beside the city sports complex. I sometimes see them on very unlikely places..like beside a very busy national road. Hope they dont meet any accident or cause them. The ice-cream was very cheap and well...ok! Please visit Anne in Manila, Philippines. Its my home country. ・midnitebara 7:48 PM 15 Comments:June 05, 2006~ cool bike..and guy?! ~I was taking a different picture when this guy got out from a nearby garage. Thinking this is my chance to catch a moving bike I positioned myself ...of course in a way he would not notice I was aiming for him. I waited a few minutes but he did not ride it, just kept poking at it! I couldnt wait anymore since I look really suspicious. Well, this shot aint bad at all. Visit Ham in London from your seat right this minute! ・midnitebara 6:48 PM 8 Comments:June 04, 2006d' postmanAs usual I was slow in getting my digicam so he is already speeding away! Took this shot of our postman through my window!! Visit Darren in Logan Queensland, Australia. ・midnitebara 5:00 PM 4 Comments:June 03, 2006" supermarket scene "For 298 yen, or less than 3 U.S dollars you can squeeze in fried chicken, fried squid rings and takoyaki balls on the alloted plastic pack. That is what this woman is doing and by the looks of it she is enjoying! Unfortunately the tempura is not included. I just finished and let me tell you Im quite good in squeezing 'em in, hehehe. Some supermarkets have what they call " time service " where prices for particular products are sold in half of the orig. prices in a certain hour. I always stand in awe as throngs of housewives attacked the produce. It is a sight! Pls. tell me what bright ideas your local super has in order to attract more buyers. You are just a click away from Lisbon, Portugal ! ・midnitebara 6:26 PM 13 Comments:June 02, 2006~ cutie ~Look who I saw when I went to buy food at the super yesterday!!! Isnt he charming? ( I think its a he.) He is also looking after the supplies his master bought, very dependable dog!! Pls. click on the photo so that you can see how cute he is!! hi cutie , cutie , !! Pls. stop by at Santy's blog for a taste of Jakarta, Indonesia . ・midnitebara 5:12 PM 10 Comments:June 01, 2006~ parking ~Today's dp theme is about parking charges but I couldnt find one near my place. Im not feeling well so I cant go far with my bicycle so I shot this parking space instead. Today 's theme is timely because starting today June 1 , Japan has implemented a more strict approach to illegal parking. Even a minute away from your car is no longer forgivable. The task of ticketing and apprehending the drivers who are not obedient have been given to private citizens and not to traffic police , which left some people worrying. In Akita, parking is not a problem unlike the major cities. Almost all establishments here have adequate parking spaces. ( one of the advantage of living in a small city ) Of course we also have the metered ones but only a few..around the train station area and on the red light district of Akita. Expensive ,too. The parking space in today's photo is near my place and it is shared by many shops. Curious about parking rates in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia? Visit Edwin's blog ! ・midnitebara 5:25 PM 10 Comments: |
