Tiers of lanterns light up the night sky during the 3 ~ 6th of August. Lanterns that symbolizes ears of rice are lit and hung on bamboo poles , called kanto. These are skillfully carried and manipulated by men who parade among excited spectators. This year there were 260 kanto's paraded and the heaviest of this poles weight about 50 kilos. Look who wanted to join us for lunch yesterday? Brought obento on our drive yesterday and found a nice place for picnic. It was green everywhere and I really had a nice relaxing time with hubby. Summer festival or " natsu matsuri " would not be as fun and exciting without these lovely girls in their colorful and gay yukata's. Of course young ladies and older ones wear it too. Anime has always been part of japans pop and art culture. They are everywhere.In this case , beautifully decorating a bus.
